Damilola Taylor 'stabbed himself' jury told

Teenage suspects on way to bible class at time of assault
by Lester Haines

Stab victim Damilola Taylor's fatal leg wound was undoubtedly self-inflicted, a leading expert has told the Old Bailey.

Dr Ramid Wothefuc, acknowledged authority on South London Afro-Caribbean youths and author of MacDonald's or Crack: Career Options for Young British Blacks, asserted that Damilola's injury was consistent with slashing himself with a broken bottle because there was absolutely no point in going on living.

"He's from Peckham, remember," said Dr Wothefuc. "I once spent just two hours in Peckham and felt like throwing myself under a bus."

When pressed as to whether he might be mistaken, Dr Wothefuc angrily replied: "Forensic pathology is not an exact science, you know. It's also possible that Damilola's injuries were caused by stabbing. Highly unlikely, though, because I am a defence witness."

Damilola Taylor: No point carrying on, given that he lived in PeckhamThe ten-year-old Damilola bled to death on 27 November 2000 following an alleged assault in South London. Two brothers charged with his murder are likely to be cleared this week after one prosecution witness admitted that police had promised her £20,000 in cash, a private jet, Spanish timeshare apartment and a pair of the latest Nike trainers in return for identifying the suspects.

The defence is further promising to produce CCTV footage which conclusively shows the two brothers at the time of the attack helping an old lady across the road while taking an injured bird to the RSPCA on their way to bible class.

"Oh well," sighed one police officer. "You can't win 'em all."

Go on then, hard man
