The Wonderful World of Bono — Europe

Scandal of European centralisation

by Bono

Bono: International roving rock punditNowhere can the insidious effects of globalisation be more clearly seen than here in our own back yard. Centralised government and the Euro, they add up to one thing: Decreased royalty margins for top international recording artists.

It is nothing short of a scandal that the European forces of government have seen fit to question the modest mark-up borne by the consumer when he or she buys a CD or DVD.

I can say that I spend no less than 51 weeks of the year campaigning tirelessly for those less fortunate than myself, and all I ask in return is a fair slice of the U2 royalty and merchandising pie.

Were it not for this modest income, I would not be in the unique position to be able to fly at a moment's notice to some war-torn third-world hell hole in order to restore order and restablish the nation on a path to democracy.

The consequences for the future of humanity would be catastrophic were I forced to abandon my crusade. This interference in global capitalism must stop, and it must stop now.
