The Wonderful World of Bono — Scandinavia
The effects of shameless global capitalism
by Bono
For thousands of years, the indigenous Laps of northern Finland have led a peaceful existence completely in harmony with nature. But now the gentle tinkling of bell-laden reindeer harnesses has been drowned out by a more sinister sound — that of skidoo engines.
Nowhere have the effects of shameless global capitalism been more clearly demonstrated than above the arctic circle, where the virgin snows now bear ugly witness to the passing of motorised snow-mobiles.
This must stop, and it must stop now. The only hope for the Lap people is that they be immediately deprived of all forms of petrol-driven transport. Only then can they be allowed to return to the idyllic pastoral life they once enjoyed.
