A woman in a bikini kneeling on a beach has been voted the sexiest in the world.

Beating two billion other women to the title, the lucky recipient wore a white bikini on an undisclosed American beach and while simultaneously kneeling, managed to look into the camera for the shot.

Incredibly, the woman is also believed to have a recording contract and may at one time have been an actress. Even more incredibly, the winning picture was thought to have been taken during an impromptu photo shoot organised by her agents.

But while the fact that she is the sexiest woman in the world now goes unquestioned, it wasn't always so. "At one point it was very close between her and a woman in a bikini lying on a beach," said one of the judges. "It really was touch and go for a moment." In the end, only a new single and exclusive story was thought to be in it.

We also understand that the kneeling woman nearly never made it into the final shortlist in favour of a woman tugging at her knickers with her thumb. The final choice also went against the bookies favourite of a woman in her underwear on all fours looking into the camera.

Meanwhile, a woman reclining in five inches of water and a woman with her hands criss-crossed over her bare breasts were said to be considering an appeal against the decision.

Whatever the outcome of that review, huge efforts are already being put into winning next year's competition. While it is impossible to predict the result, one insider told us: "I wouldn't be at all surprised if a woman with sticky tape wound across her nipples and between her legs was the undisputed sexiest woman in the world in 12 months' time."
