Al-Musayyib is without doubt one of the most dangerous places on earth. It is here that Iraq houses its most potent chemical weapons of mass destruction.
Perversely, all of the deadly agents spewing forth from al-Musayyib were originally supplied by the West during Iraq's war with Iran. The Iraqis deployed them with deadly consequences for the Shi'ite forces of the Ayatollah Khomeni. More than 1 million Iranians succumbed to diabetes, bad teeth and obesity.
Chillingly, there is growing evidence that Saddam Hussein would, if provoked, have no compunction in using these weapons against civilian populations. Indeed, a recent outbreak of botulism traced to a kebab van in Basingstoke has all the trademarks of an al-Qaeda/Hussein-sponsored terror attack. Armed police and army units are on state of heightened alert in response to this mobile fast-food threat.
