Shame of man in Euston station human shield shockerCommuters express horror at underhand tactics by Chris Miller Controversial "human shield" tactics employed outside Euston station in central London last week have described as "horrifying" and "shameful" by witnesses. However, despite widespread condemnation of the sickening tactic at 8.50 am on Thursday morning, the perpetrator — 38-year-old David Collins of Milton Keynes — remains unrepentant. Speaking exclusively to The Rockall Times and four other newspapers, Collins even BOASTED about his behaviour. "I saw the guy sitting there, wrapped in a blanket, with a Starbucks cup from about 30 yards away," he told us. "Almost immediately, I spotted the woman ahead of me and the opportunity she presented. By timing my walking correctly, I could keep her between me and the homeless guy at all times as I slid past him. In the end, it was easy and I don't even think the woman realised." "She had a Walkman on," Collins added. We later tracked down the woman that had been so ruthlessly and cynically used in Collins' human-shield shame. Alicia Nelson, 27, from Highgate, remained unaware of her part in the terrible incident until we told her the terrible truth. "That's pretty lame," Nelson said. "Horrifying and shameful? Well, now that I think about it, yes. It is pretty horrifying and shameful." She later acknowledged that it wasn't even pretty, it was ugly. Ugly, horrifying and shameful. But while saved the trauma of knowing she had been used, passers-by were not so fortunate. "I don't know what's wrong with the bloke," said commuter Phil Ward. "What is so wrong with walking past and simply pretending you can't even see them? It's the way it's always been done." "Like the homeless man didn't realise what was going on,"said furious cycle courier Kevin O'Connor. "He's homeless. He's not a moron." But Collins has refused to apologise. "If he's homeless, what's he doing buying expensive coffee from Starbucks? Answer me that," Collins said. "Oh, well I suppose he could have got it out of a rubbish bin." The incident is believed to have cost the homeless man — Derek Fowler, 46, of Euston — up to 17p.
