The original is at http://www.therockalltimes.co.uk/2003/08/18/rockall-shutdown.html. Sun sets on Rockall Times — temporarily?Exhaustion and lack of spondoolicks combine to force shut-down by De Management Sadly, this issue of The Rockall Times will be the last for the foreseeable future. For 21 months we and our magnificent and selfless contributors have slogged to provide the UK with its very own web satire superpower. What's more, we reckon we've succeeded. However, right from the start the whole operation has been a voluntary, spare-time affair, with no financial backing. And, let's face it, who's going to advertise on a site that has "There's fuc*k all on Rockall" as its strapline? You see our point. Another factor has been the coding side of the operation. What we really need is a proper Content Management System to facilitate putting together the site. Please pity poor old Aaron Crane — our backroom boy — who has been cobbling together issues every Sunday evening for nigh on two years — without having any time left to address the CMS situation. Now, maybe if we'd sold a few more shirts or gone for a subscription model, we'd have made enough cash to solve the problem. Maybe, but then again who wants to pay for web content, right? So, it is with heavy hearts that an exhausted Rockall Times team bid you a temporary adieu, while we go off in search of some wonga. And, when we've found some, we'll be back with a new CMS and the same top-quality content that the discerning punter of today demands. In the meantime, the site will remain live for new readers to enjoy our enormous back catalogue of mirth, and any suggestions/abuse/offers of assistance can still be directed to Lester Haines. Thank you very much and goodnight.
