Most Britons have no friends in the Campaign for Racial Equality: Official

Shock poll findings a damning indictment of "multi-racial" UK

by College Green

Figures published this week show the apparent depth of latent bigotry in the UK, claim researchers for a national polling group.

A comprehensive study — carried out by polljacking three dozen non-threatening individuals caught in the open in several of the nicer streets around the polling company's office, plus factoring in ten or so people called by telephone — indicate that only a tiny minority of the British public have any friends working for the Commission for Racial Equality.

Despite years of publicity and millions of pounds spent, most people interviewed said that not only did they not know and like anyone who worked for the CRE, they didn't really give a tinker's cuss for the organisation either. The figures varied from 0 per cent recognition in the Highlands, Powys, and Cornwall to as high as 25 per cent amongst CRE boss Trevor Philips's family and acquaintances.

Critics have seized upon the information as evidence that despite more twenty years of large-scale migration - from the Guardian public sector jobs pages to the CRE offices - the majority of the population still harbours deep-seated prejudice and is unwilling to befriend employees of the organisation.

Most significantly, following the release of the report, Trevor Phillips called a press conference due to his not having been much in the news recently. He promised immediate action on the report's findings through a relentless campaign of media appearances.
