Police investigate Diouf outrage

Bolton Wanderers star in disturbing off-the-ball incident

by Juan Sebastian Gaucho

Lancashire police are investigating a startling claim that Bolton Wanderers' star striker El-Hadji Diouf chatted amiably with fans before signing some autographs and smiling openly near the end of a hard-fought recent match.

El-Hadji Diouf: Allegedly smiledThe incident is understood to have occurred during a game at the club’s Reebok stadium. Having been substituted in the closing minutes, Diouf was walking close to some of the home fans. As he passed by, a supporter is understood to have stretched out a hand and playfully ruffled Diouf’s hair in recognition of his good performance, causing the player to grin and then stop and spend some quality time with several of the fans in that section.

Due to the ongoing match, no television cameras managed to pick up what is said to have taken place. Shortly afterwards numerous callers to a local radio show commented on the actions of the player and a club spokesperson was later moved to say that what had taken place was “completely out of character for El-Haji” and should “never happen again”.

However, this is not the first time Diouf has been accused of such an action. Three years ago, while still playing for Liverpool, the Senegalese international reportedly posed for pictures with a critically injured child for a couple of minutes prior to the game, though again there is no pictorial record. Most intriguingly, a newspaper in Senegal is understood to have several photographs of him controversially shaking hands with the head of a supporters' group, though these have never been printed in the UK and proof of their existence is disputed.

When The Rockall Times confronted Diouf over the alleged positive conduct he punched our reporter in the stomach and spat in his face.
