Get yer Rockall first day covers hereRockall Post Office open for business
by de Management
This whole "Rockall Post Office" idea was the brainchild of Mark Valentine, who can take a bow for his stamp design:
Then along came Discworld Stamps, who wanted to do a first-day cover with a Terry Pratchett tie-in. Yup, we were a little perplexed too until they explained that Mr Pratchett had described, in his Discworld novel Jingo, an island (Leshp) which rises from the sea and nearly provokes a war. All of which sounds about right for Rockall. So, here is that historic first day cover:
Obviously, we've cropped the blank bit on the right where the stamps go - one Rockall and one Leshp - but you get the idea. The artwork is based on an 1831 Royal Navy survey map of Rockall and incorporates a suitably antiqued version of our Rockall Ho! crest. Tasty. This cover is a limited edition of just 500 worldwide, so you'd better get your skates on if you want to get your hands on one. The cover costs £9.50, and full details of the cover, its insert and how to order are here on the Discworld Stamps website. One last thing: all of the proceeds of the sale of both first day cover and stamp go directly to the MEdia project of Mental Health Media. Full details on MEdia are available here, or you can make an online donation here. |
