Blue joy as 'Galactico' goes to Goodison
Superstar Neville heads east hungry for new challenge
by Juan Sebastian Gaucho
Jubilant Everton fans lined the streets of Liverpool more than twenty deep to welcome the latest so-called Galacitco who has joined the Champions League competitors just in time for their impressive and historic immediate elimination.
Having fought off intense competition from Wigan, West Ham, and FC Bruges, the Toffees pulled off what is being described as "a considerable coup" by their Season Ticket Hotline in getting a man who has for many years watched repeated Manchester United triumphs from the comfort of the bench.
Speaking through an interpreter, manager David Moyes told awestruck reporters: "Phil Neville is a fantastic acquisition and he can do a job for us. Even now we're working on finding out what he does best. He's seen it all though: Junior Red of the Year 1987, the Pontins Northern Sides' Reserve League — twice — and a Carling Cup quarter-final winner." Indeed, footballing tactical pundits last night confirmed that so flexible is the new boy that he cover pretty well and position on the pitch without ever leaving the dug-out.
Bookmakers immediately slashed odds on the Premiership trophy ending up at Goodison from 1000-1 to 950-1 and were reportedly refusing to take bets from their regular customers on the likelihood of European triumph. Asked if he was worried that Neville would hard it difficult to be accommodated in a side already boasting Gary Naysmith, Kevin Kilbane, and James McFadden, Moyes merely laughed.
Neville's colleagues at the Everton training ground welcomed their latest team mate effusively with the most common question understood to be: "Isn't your first name Gary?".
