Robin Cook — a colossus of 21st-century politics

Tributes continue to pour in for mountaineering redhead

Following last week's glowing tribute by PM Tony Blair as reported in The Rockall Times, accolades continue to roll in for the late ex-Foreign Minister Robin Cook. A special book of remembrance has been opened in the Asda super-store in Livingstone (Scotland) where the man known to locals simply as "the wee yin" represented the people as an MP for several years.

Meanwhile, celebrities of the political, music, film, and panto industries continue to pay their respects and the superlatives continue to roll in. From the world of politics Clare Short appearing on Channel 5's popular Trisha Goddard breakfast show seemed close to tears as she told how "Robin was a rare being, a colossus who bestrode the dizzy heights of Labour Party politics in the mid 1980s". Speaking on behalf of the seven-man executive Committee of the newly reformed National Union of Mineworkers, a tearful Miss S White said he was a true giant amongst statesmen who stood head and shoulders above others in the Labour movement.

From the entertainment business Syd Little added his own moving tribute saying: "Robin will be missed by us all, people of his stature are in short supply." Speaking on MTV both Prince — the man formerly known as O ( + > — and Paul Simon spoke of Robin's love of their music and how he was an inspiration for some of their more memorable songs.

From her hospital bed in Sydney via video link diminutive disco diva Kylie Minogue spoke of Robin being the inspiration behind her 1988 discotheque hit I should be so lucky. A press spokesman for Jimmy Krankie explained that although the news is not exactly fandabidozi, Jimmy will continue with his summer shows at the Blackpool Pleasure Beach.

Across the Atlantic erstwhile Labour Party supporter Joe Pesci spoke controversially about "that little fuc*ker Blair, well you know what, they whacked Robin. They fuc*king whacked him. I can't fuc*king believe it. Fine, I'll dig the fuc*king hole. I don't give a fuc*k". And movingly, speaking from his palatial mansion in the Golden Hall of Meduseld at Edoras a visibly stunned Gimli, Son of Glóin, lamented sadly on a fellowship that had now been broken.
