Blues pledge clampdown on web hate message

It's just not cricket says club
by Juan Sebastian Gaucho

Following on from the events that took place after last year's match with Barcelona, when death threats meant referee Anders Frisk was forced to quit football permanently, Chelsea Football Club has moved decisively to clamp down on the provocative message that somehow appeared on the club's official website soon after this year's action-packed game at Stamford Bridge.

A club statement said: "If Chelsea is able to trace the author, and if they are a season-ticket holder or member, then action will be taken." The club also vowed to conduct a review of monitoring procedures on the site the only tiny clue so far being that the statement appeared in the "Jose's Journal" section.

The statement went on to to say that Chelsea "totally condemns" the language used but warned that tracing the source of the message may not be easy. "Chelsea would like to stress that, at this stage, it is impossible to say whether the message was posted by a Chelsea fan as some parts of the site are publicly accessible," it added. "Similarly, the club is not in control of other fan websites, inside or outside of the UK that claim connections with Chelsea, and those websites are also publicly accessible."

Initial reports suggests that the phrases used — such as asking "How do you say cheating in Catalan?" and stating that the officials actions "ruined" the game — may invite malice against Norwegian Referee Terje Hauge.

Hauge gave Chelsea defender Del Horno a straight red card for a challenge on Barcelona thespian Lionel Messi and the dismissal eventually cost Chelsea as they slipped to a 2-1 defeat. Many Blues fans have since been determined to make the referee aware of their dissatisfaction with his actions.

Regarding the website outrage, Chelsea MD Peter Kenyon thundered: "If we track this individual down we will take the strongest possible action. Nothing less than a multi-million pound, five-year contract and all the custard tarts they can eat will do for scum like this".
