Sean Connery to donate fortune to charity

Actor pays tribute to his roots — in hard cash

by Bill Fibber — Bakewell Herald

Sean Connery is to give all his money away to the British Tramway Museum, it was revealed today. A source close to the patriotic actor, famous for such classic films as The Godfather and Carlito's Way, said: "Sean has everything he needs, he has bought a crofters cottage in Milton Keynes for his retirement and plans to end his distinguished life there, tending his olive groves and nurturing his tomatoe plants."

The actor, worth a cool £55bn, has been derided for not being patriotic to his native roots, and wants to give something back. In an interview given to Squire Trevor Mc Donald — to be screened later this year — he is reported to have told the veteran newsman: "I've done it all, and then a wee bit more. I have had sex with half the women in the world — and Elizabeth Taylor —, won 50 oscars and never had to drop my accent once! It's time I hung up my kilt and took it easy."

"Trams have been a big part of my life, I love the smell and feel of them, and the wheels are fantastic, anyone who thinks trams are for sweaty pale men that wear woolly cardigans and boiler suits is mistaken."

Mr Connery's wife is believed to support her husbands passion for trams, and can't wait to empty their joint bank account.

A spokeman for the BTM said today: We're delighted Sean has taken this stance, now we can build for the future. We are desperately short of spares so this couldn't have come at a better time. We have decided to give Sean honourary membership of the BTM and all rides will be free for him and his family for the rest of his life, subject to terms and conditions."

Close friend and fellow "tram" enthusiast, "actress" Catherine Zeta-Jones-Douglas said: "This is typical of Sean. He has a heart of gold, and has never forgotten his Welsh roots."
