Rich Media information and opportunities

Technical information
by The Advertising Team

Rich Media is any advertisement creative that is not a standard GIF or JPEG image — animated or static. Below are our guidelines to rich media placement on The Rockall Times. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any queries you may have.

HTML

Dimensions: 468×60, 120×90, 120×600

File Size: 72 dpi maximum actual size, 10k maximum file size static, 25k maximum file size animated

Technical: All HTML, including form tags and input tags must be self-contained inside of a single set of table tags. No calls can be made outside of the ad to BODY tags within the page. Any forms included in the HTML must use the GET method instead of the POST method.

JavaScript & DHTML

Dimensions: 468x60, 120x90, 120x600

File Size: 72 dpi maximum actual size, 10k maximum file size static, 25k maximum file size animated

Technical: All JavaScript and DHTML, including form tags and input tags must be self-contained inside of a single set of table tags; no calls can be made outside of the ad to BODY tags within the page. An external link be passed as a parameter to the script to allow click-through tracking. Destination URL should be specified in PARAM tags.

All source code must be provided. Ad banners using Javascript and/or DHTML must be accompanied by JavaScript/Browser detection script that alternately serves a default gif or a NOSCRIPT tag to those users that don't support JavaScript. This assures all users will be reached by the advertiser's campaign.

ShockWave Flash

Dimensions: 468x60, 120x90, 120x600

File Size: 72 dpi maximum actual size, 50k maximum file size static, 75k maximum file size animated

Technical: We highly recommended that all Flash creatives are served through Dart 5 to enable accurate tracking of click-though performance. Any ad will need to include a JavaScript wrapper ("sniffer" code) to detect whether or not the user has the correct plug-in.

If the user does not have the Flash plug-in, a standard GIF banner — provided by the advertiser — will be served. That banner should be referenced in the HTML code and have a click-through URL. This assures that all users will be reached by the advertiser's campaign. We cannot accept adverts which prompt any user without the Flash plug-in to download the same.
